"First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up,because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew.Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me." Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945

INSTANCE ONE - Keith 418 (from Tristan's site)

"While you and I have disagreed on any number of issues, I want to go on
the record as saying that I deem this latest action by USGL to be utterly
deplorable, despicable, and symptomatic of a failing OTO leadership that
fears any criticism and, rather than dealing with its own many mistakes
like real men and real women, instead seeks to stifle its critics.

"In the past, the OTO was proud of the way it handled dissent. Look at how
far we have fallen! I’d like to think that this regrettable action will
cause many people to express their own dissent with it, but I expect that
the “culture of fear” is far too entrenched. It’s times like these
that reveal who the people with guts and principles are - and I hope to
see more of them revealed than I suspect will be."

"And here is the issue - you are being pushed out of the group for expressing your thoughts. It's not like you stole money or slandered anyone. You didn't beat someone up or break property. You expressed your opinions.

"Again, anyone not outraged about this isn't paying attention. Even I expected better from some of the other leaders in the group. Now is when we'll see what material people are really made out of."

"Hello Allen,

"Please let us set aside any past difficulties and allow me to congratulate you on your difficult choice to post an open letter airing problems that have bothered many in the OTO for years. The letter was concise and to the point, you made no claims or accusations that are not evident to anyone close to the order, having eyes to see and ears to hear. Bravo to you sir for being brave enough to speak your mind in an atmosphere of enforced belief and historical revision.

"I am sad that after years of service to the OTO, they saw fit to expel you from the order. imho, in the long run you will be better off for it.

"If I can assist you in any way, it would be my pleasure, I have also seen the abuse and politics eating the order from within. The difference being, I just chose to leave. I have tried to give some initiates a heads up, but nothing I could say carries the authority or wide view of the order you have.

"Again, well done.

Joel Love"

"DR. Greenfield,

"Your welcome Allen, but it was you made the efforts to expose their "little club", despite damage to your personal position with the Order. Again, Thank you for your efforts. As for the order; they have yet again illustrated how they repay service above and beyond the normal call of duty.

"We had some real personal problems in the past. I hurt you and for that I am very sorry. I appeal to you for the sacrament of forgiveness. My lack of contact was a choice to not cause you any further distress. I sent you the letter as a shamed friend, I have always respected your research and published work. I wish I could fall into the "old friend" box, instead of the "enemy" box. I do know who you are and have never been happy with the idea of you being my enemy. I'm older, sicker and more humble with the passing of ten years. Regardless of your reactions, I count you as a friend (who I hurt) and hope you at least recall the times in which we called each other friend and brother.

Joel Love"
