From"Decoded" The arrival

Indrid Cold or Indridi Indridason ?

"A man leaves the object, approaches the car of Woodrow Derenberger, smiling in grimaçante manner, the hands wedged under his armpits, and asks him to lower his car window. The man stands 6 feet tall, 185 pounds, in between 35 to 40 years old, All his clothing is blue and shimmering, with a fluttering effect. They speak together for 5 or 10 minutes, but via waves or telephathy , the man always smiling and without opening the mouth. "My name is Cold, Indrid Cold. I sleep, I breathe, I bleed just like you. Do not be afraid," he says, "we come from a country which is far from being as powerful as yours. We do not want to harm you." It asks Derenberger what are the distant lights and the latter answers him that it is the town of Parkersburg, West Virginia. The man says that a similar place in his country is called 'a gathering'."

Probably the most dramatic and least credited psychic events are those centered around the

so-called "physical mediumship" so popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many

such cases lend themselves to explanations in terms of stage magic and outright fraud, but a

considerable number of instances have had substantial scientific controls and are difficult

to explain in terms of ordinary phenomena. Such cases continue to appear and are even now

under investigation. I have worked with a consumate stage magician who claimed to duplicate

such phenomena, but I was easily able to catch the stage magic--physical mediumship is not

always so easily explained.

One of the most carefully documented physical mediums, Indridi Indridason, is unfortuinately

little-known outside of his native Iceland and much of the research on the case has never

appeared in English. The following report hardly does him justice. From orbs to levitation

to violent poltergeist-like events, the case is quite impressive. The classical mediumistic

circle, be it noted, closely resembles the magical Work done in such contexts as evocation

and invocation, and, in my own Work, similar phenomena have been encountered in a similar

context during Enochian Workings, notably the series of experiments done at Eulis Lodge in

the early 1990s, under rather carefully controlled (i.e. tyled) circumstances. The

following account is adapted from a paper the interested reader can access at the web site

mentioned at the end.

Above is a rare photograph of Indrid Indridason and and unidentified older guy, doubless now a ghost.

Despite the marvellous phenomena produced by the physical medium, Indridi Indridason (1883-

1912), there is little awareness of this outside Iceland. Indridi's mediumship was unusual

because it appears that he was the first person known to have had these abilities in

Iceland; secondly, he was discovered by academic researchers, and his mediumship was

developed by them. The source of this work was the Experimental Society that later became

the Icelandic Society for Psychical Research. Collapse )
